We know that the holidays for mental health can be a very tough time, even more so with COVID in the holidays. So my church has decided that this year we are going to talk about it for the holidays with a series titled Christmas Feels. This is not the first time my church has used the pulpit to address faith and mental health, last year dedicating a whole month during May with mental health awareness month.
More Than Last Year
Last year we not only had a sermon series, but we also offered mental health resources from our local county mental health board and NAMI chapter with a church mental health team member standing there to answer any questions.
This year, we are offering all that and even more with resources from all of the counseling agencies so that if someone wanted to go to counseling, they could. Further, we actually have partnered with a Christian counseling agency where they come in one day a week with referrals from the church and they also received a table for those that wanted to chat. We are praying for our teams, educating staff on suicide prevention, and informing all small group leaders about our mental health team in case the volunteers need further support. We truly want to serve our community and see them be restored through Christ in mind, body, and soul.
Watch The Series Yourself
If you want to watch the series as it comes out, check out my church’s website here where they are hosting all of the recorded series (or go watch them live on Sundays here as you will get to interact with staff and others watching online.)
If you want to watch the first in the series, you can watch it below and let us know in the comments if there are other churches that are connecting mental health with the holidays.
